This has been an interesting week in regards to the learning process. We are currently working on a project in a group of people we don't necessarily know very well. This project is one were we read short stories, and relate them to an idea such as theme, point of view, or fantasy. My group has chosen to write about "Theme" and "Point of View". At the beginning of the week, I was under the impression that I had a pretty good understanding of what these ideas meant. However, I only had a basic understanding of these ideas and how to relate them to the short stories. By reading the packets that Mr. Schoenborn gave us about our ideas, I have gathered a more thorough understanding of these topics. For example, I didn't actually realize that there were four different kinds of point of view, and I didn't have any idea of how to find out which one a story was. There are omniscient, third person limited, first person, and objective. I know what the first three are decently well, but I still have yet to understand "objective" point of view. I feel like reading about what these mean and how to find them will majorly help with the writing process in this project. Before I read the "theme" packet, I had already read "Hunters in the Snow". When I had finished the short story, I had no idea of what the theme could possibly be. I was lost in the snow. Now, after reading the packet on "theme", I have come up with some good ideas. I know the theme involves selfishness and carlessness, I just have yet to discover a solid theme connecting those ideas. I hope that next week I can discover a more clear theme, and I hope that by the end of this project I will have a much better understanding of what "theme" and "point of view" really mean and how to connect them to a story.
