This trimester, we will be choosing a topic, finding two books that correlate with that subject, and researching that topic in preparation for a presentation at the end of the trimester. I am incredibly nervous for the presentation, but I am excited to learn more about capital punishment. When we recieved this assignment, I looked online a little bit just to see an idea about what capital punishment was, and it turns out that I don't know as much about the topic as I originally thought. I know the basics, but I have no idea how someone is chosen to face capital punishment or how the process goes. Also, I cannot imagine how someone feels when facing imminent death, especially when that death is from the government. I hope that reading these novels will enlighten me on these topics and I am really excited to read the books that I have chosen. I also look forward to reading a story through a critical lense. Before this class, I didn't know what that even meant. My group has chosen to read McBeth through a feministic lense, which is really exciting as that is a topic I know a lot about. Critical lenses can give you a deeper understanding of a text, or just can give you another perspective. I think it will be really interesting seeing what the other groups have chosen, and seeing how different the group's outlooks will be by the end of the project. It seems that we will have a lot to do this trimester and I look forward to the second of three trimesters!
